eScan warns consumers about online shopping scams
eScan has warned consumers of online shopping scams. In this digital era, trend of shopping online is increasing day by day. This emerging trend has proved beneficial for marketers to promote their merchandise in wide geographical area using internet, whereas the increasing inclination amongst customers is due to the convenience factor. This, in turn, has proved as an excellent opportunity for cyber criminals to make money.
Watch out for cyberbullies
"Social-engineering attacks are most common against teenagers," says Govind Rammurthy, managing director and CEO, eScan. In their desperation to outdo peers on social media platforms and get "likes" and comments on their updates, teens unhesitatingly connect with strangers, unmindful of the repercussions. Perps gleefully take advantage of their naïveté, subject them to severe psychological pressure, and force them to give in to their various demands. "These are adult perpetrators," he warns, "and include pedophiles and scamsters." Cybercriminals constantly scour public forums, social-networking platforms to find their potential victims.
Banking Street Special: Frisking Biometrics on security

Some 25 Nigerian banks have started capturing customer biometric data as part of Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) while Groupement des Cartes Bancaires CB, the French bank card association is on its way to equip member banks to issue customers with keyfobs supporting fingerprint payments by the end of this year. For this CB is working with the Natural Security Alliance, a group set up to commercialize a standard approach to biometrics in payments, and when you notice names like Visa, MasterCard and Discover or French banks Banque Accord, BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole and Crédit Mutuel, merchant Carrefour's banking arm as members of the alliance.

Does that mean that BFSI industry can indeed embrace biometrics without any apprehensions or concerns as long as the pace of adoption is right? The needle of doubt, understandably, swerves to the security spot yet again and so we try to swipe some questions by someone who breathes security landscape all the time - Govind Rammurthy, MD & CEO at eScan, an Anti-Virus & Content Security solutions provider that has been excited about some futuristic technologies, like MWL Technology, DIRC Technology, NILP Technology, and sophisticated Anti-Virus Heuristic Algorithms under its ambit.

Bajaj Electricals improves productivity using centralized security solution

Bajaj Electricals (BEL), a part of the Bajaj Group, has diversified interests in lighting, luminaries, appliances, fans, LPG based generators, engineering and projects. BEL's existing IT infrastructure included over 600 computers connected to the corporate network through wireless and physical network, with bandwidth availability of 45 mbps. The company wanted a security solution to protect end-points that could be managed from a central location. Data leaks were reported, in the past, following a weaker digital security system infrastructure leading to latency in manageability and support. Besides, the IT department wanted a central location utility for updating functional aspects. After exploring various vendors BEL gave deployment mandate to eScan. The deployment, after initial analysis of the requirements, was done using eScan Management Console.
